also known as '
The Pink City', is one of the most

owes it's name to the great warrior king, Sawai Jai Singh II who founded it

» Hawa Mahal
It is one of the most famous landmarks to dot the landscape of Jaipur. Also

'The Palace of Winds' it was built by Sawai Jai
Singh II in the year 1799 AD.The palace with it's beehive like structure was
built by the king to enable the ladies of the royal household to watch royal
processions and daily life activities outside in comfort and privacy.
» The City Palace
One of the most visited tourist attractions in Jaipur, the
City
Place is a wonderful blend of Rajput and Mughal architectural forms.
Located in the heart of the old Jaipur city, this palace occupies one
seventh of the area of the walled city. Built by Jai Singh, this palatial
structure has been ornately designed and has numerous well laid out
courtyards and gardens. Besides, the
City Palace also
houses a museum with an excellent display of both Rajput and Mughal
costumes, miniature paintings, royal paraphernalia and the like.
» Amber Fort

This
imposing fort palace is situated on a small hillock and overlooks the city
of Jaipur. Its construction was started by Raja Man Singh in 1592 AD, but
was finally completed by Sawai Jai Singh in the eighteenth century. This
architectural marvel is a blend of Rajput and Mughal forms of architecture
and speaks volumes about the magnificence and grandeur of the times it has
been a witness to.
» Jal Mahal
Famous for its intricate architecture, the
Jal Mahal
was built in 1799 AD by Sawai Pratap Singh for duck shooting parties. Built
of red sandstone, the first four floors of this structure are under water
with only the top floor being visible. A causeway connects this palace to
the mainland. Interestingly, this place attracts a lot of migratory birds in
the winter season.
» Nahargarh Fort
Also known as
'The Tiger Fort', the
Nahargarh
Fort was built by Jai Singh II in the year 1734.This grand structure is
the first of the three forts built by the Rajput kings and is a standing
witness to all the glory and valor associated with the brave Rajput kings.
» Jaigarh Fort
This rugged military structure was built by Sawai Jai Singh in the year
1726.Perched on a cliff this structure offers excellent views of the
wonderful city of Jaipur. It also houses the world's largest canon on
wheels, the
Jaivan besides having a museum, which has a
vast collection of weapons and canons used by the Rajputs.
» Jantar Mantar
This structure was built by Sawai Jai Singh in the year 1716 and has the
distinction of being the largest stone observatory in the world. The
Jantar Mantar is located near the gate of the
City Palace in Jaipur and has a number of medieval
astronomical instruments on display.
How to reach Jaipur
Jaipur is around 262 km away from Delhi and is
well connected by road, rail and air. It has regular flights to Delhi,
Calcutta and Mumbai besides having weekly flights to places like Jaisalmer
and Udaipur. A major portion of the railway lines have been converted to
broad gauge and there is a special luxury train called 'The Palace on
Wheels' which originates from Delhi and makes a trip around Rajasthan.A
number of Deluxe and Express buses are run by the Rajasthan government and a
number of private operators. Pre-paid auto rickshaws are easily available.
